With around 7.9 million people living with a heart condition in the UK, many of us will already know someone with a cardiovascular disease. Through our Heart Month partnership, we discovered that many of our team had personal experience of the effects of heart disease. Keep scrolling to hear their stories.

Georgina, Brand Director
Following a heart block, Georgina received a lifesaving pacemaker insertion.
“British Heart Foundation really supported me on my journey. After you’re discharged, you can feel alone and isolated, but the forum on the British Heart Foundation website helped me. It’s really nice to have that network.”
“I was initially a little nervous and uncomfortable about sharing my story, but if I can help just one person by sharing my experience, then that makes it all worth it. This truly is a partnership that’s close to our hearts.”
David, CEO
On Christmas Day in 2011, David lost his father to a heart attack.
“The character of my father was a typical older generation person, very stubborn. He didn’t like to go to the doctors, he didn’t like to go to the hospital.”
“The best thing we can do is to try and help people recognise the symptoms of a heart condition. If we can help people understand the signs, it will benefit them and their family and friends.”
Charlotte, Store Assistant
After her father’s diagnosis, Charlotte learned she may be at an increased risk of a genetic heart condition.
“It definitely changed how I perceive heart disease. It was something I thought was so far away or far removed from my family, and it’s made me realise that anyone can be affected by it.”
*British Heart Foundation inform that Charlotte is referring to an inherited cardiomyopathy – a disease of the heart muscle caused by a faulty gene that can run through families.

Neil, Retoucher
Neil’s life was forever changed when he suffered a heart attack on his way to work.
“The doctors told me if I’d got on the train that morning, I’d have gone to sleep and not woken up.”
“British Heart Foundation were key to my recuperation process. The resources and information they offer made sure I was looking after myself, kept my strength up and was very helpful in making sure I felt good about me.”
Suzie, Regional Manager
Sadly, Suzie lost a close friend to a sudden heart attack.
“Emma was always the life and soul of the party. She was a mother, a sister, a daughter and a friend.”
“I think we can better support people living with heart conditions by working with charities like British Heart Foundation, and giving to charities that are supporting and helping people.”

This February, we’re donating £1 from selected styles to British Heart Foundation to help fund lifesaving research.
